Philodendron Verrucosum x Melanochrysum Plant in 2x2x3″ pot

$26.99 $32.66
Verrucosum x Melanochrysum Plant This Philodendron has performed very well for us here in the nursery and is much easier to grow than other forms of Verrucosum. Leaves have the same velvety texture, however they grow larger and with fewer pest problems. This is a fast-growing variety with undersides of deep maroon veined with yellow. The stems reach 8 to 10 inches in length at maturity. This variety does require more care and fertilizer than most others and can greatly benefit from the introduction of a moss wrapped totem. These are very healthy, climbing tropical plants with well established root systems. Philodendrons are very easy to grow tropical plants that require little care indoors or out. Like other aroids, many species of Philodendron are grown as houseplants, or outdoors in mild climates. Philodendrons come in two different forms: vining and non-climbing. The vining philodendrons exhibit an exciting growth pattern, for example, a moss-wrapped totem could be used for them to climb on. Alternatively, they can be allowed to spill over the sides of hanging baskets or be guided along a pathway, creating an enchanting view. They grow indefinitely, rooting as they go, often needing some sort of support. On the other hand, non-climbing philodendrons have a distinct vertical growth style. This makes them an ideal choice for areas with limited horizontal space or outdoors in the tropical garden. This self-heading variety grows upward, not outward, effectively utilizing the space they occupy. They all thrive in moist soils with high organic matter. Indoors plants enjoy temperatures between 65°-90°F and in lower light conditions than other house plants. Outdoors in the ground or up an arbor, Philodendrons get big and are often unrecognizable from their potted juvenile state. They add a wonderfully tropical accent to any well-lit space or cascading from your favorite hanging planter. In very cold zones a containerized Philodendron can be brought inside for the winter months. Be sure to avoid frost and freezing temperatures. Hot Tip: At your own risk, once your plant reaches 2 or 3 feet in height pinch off the new growth tip, generally within a couple of weeks you should have new growth buds forming at multiple nodes creating a fuller, lush plant.Be sure to always check back as we offer over 250 varieties throughout the year, all shapes, sizes and colors.   This plant has been grown to maturity and is verified. What Does Verified Mean? As a plant enthusiast, you are aware that unique plants are the product of exceptional mother plants. Our current collection has been carefully cultivated, from the tender stage of their lives to their mature phase. This process allows us to observe their development, understand their mature size, shape, and lineage, so we can properly photo, video and describe these extraordinary aroids. Why Verify? Aroid species often exhibit similar characteristics in their juvenile stage, making precise identification challenging. Many enthusiasts may mistakenly categorize various species due to their resemblances before they reach full maturity. This confusion is further compounded when plants from different geographical regions, such as South America or Europe, are given identical names despite their mature forms displaying distinct differences. Our innovative verify program provides a solution to this issue by offering a glimpse of the mature form of the plant before making a purchase. How We Verify? Our years-long project has successfully nurtured over 600 unique varieties, grown on large poles for precise evaluation of their size, node spacing, leaf color, stem width, and growth rate etc. Due to recent and ongoing botanical and common names changes, all plants names are carried forward from the time we acquired them. Note: Future growth and variegation is not guaranteed. Occasional leaf drop, spotting, or browning, especially in varieties with significant white, are normal. In our nursery, plants thrive under 40-80% shade cloth. If grown outdoors, direct exposure to full sun may cause leaf burn. We suggest gradually introducing the plants to sunny areas over a week or so to reduce stress for optimal results. Despite our high standards in plant propagation, we can't assure future variegation patterns, coloration, survival or growth rate. Individual plants may vary, even though our mother plants have thrived for over 20 years. We guarantee all variegation is natural without any Chemically Induced Variegation (NO C.I.V.)
